In this article, we’ll be providing a Nike Air Tech Challenge Hybrid review. These Air Tech Challenges are hybrids because the design of the upper is created from a combination of the previous Tech Challenges 1, 3 and 4. On top of that, hints of the Air Tech Challenge 2 can also be seen throughout the sneaker but not as much in the upper.
For this reason, the Nike Air Tech Challenge Hybrids are a great pair of sneakers to review. There is so much history that went into the design of this Nike sneaker.
While the Nike Air Tech Challenge Hybrids aren’t the best sneaker for resellers to focus on, they still hold the heart of many buyers. A great Nike Air Tech Challenge Hybrid review is complete with reviews of the models that went into the sneaker. Here’s the breakdown for this Air Tech Challenge Hybrids review.

Nike Air Tech Challenge Hybrids Overview
The Nike Air Tech Challenge Hybrid sneaker is a hybrid of the Air Tech Challenge models 1-4. Elements from each of these sneakers were combined together to create this hybrid model. These are not cheap Nike sneakers by any means. At the same time, they are not the best Nike shoes for basketball out there.
As I previously stated, the upper of the sneaker is mainly comprised of the 1, 3, 4 Air Tech Challenges. The sneaker pays homage to its predecessors, which were extremely popular sneakers, while also putting a new twist on the Air Tech Challenge model.
One cool feature of these hybrids, besides the actual look of the sneaker, is a mash-up of the other Air Tech Challenges, is that the colorways of this sneaker are actually mashed up as well. Instead of settling on one specific colorway to go with, the Air Tech Challenge Hybrids include several different colorways from previous versions in the upper of the sneaker.
The Air Tech Challenges are not a great investment sneaker but are still loved by sneakerheads.
Air Tech Challenge 1 Review
As the name states, Nike’s Air Tech Challenge 1 was the original Air Tech Challenge sneaker. The upper of the Hybrid Air Tech Challenges uses some of the squiggly line running through the middle of the sneaker in its design.
One difference between the Air Tech Challenge 1 and the Hybrids is that the colorways on the Tech Challenge 1s were more subtle than the Hybrids. It might be obvious because the Hybrids literally combine the colorways and designs from other Air Tech Challenge versions. For that reason, the colorway of the Hybrids is a little wilder.
Air Tech Challenge 2 Review
The Nike Air Tech Challenge 2 is widely known as the most popular Air Tech Challenge version. The Hot Lava colorways are fan-favorites of sneaker enthusiasts, as well as the Poison Green colors.
The likely reason that this sneaker isn’t featured much in the upper of the Air Tech Challenge Hybrids is that the insole of the Hybrids is exactly like the Air Tech Challenge 2. Also, the overall mold of the Hybrids is extremely similar to the Air Tech Challenge 2s.
The midsole of this sneaker is what really sets it apart from the other Air Tech Challenges. It shares the same Nike Air Unit in it as the other Air Tech Challenge models, but the front of the midsole features some cuts and designs on it that can’t be found on any other Air Tech Challenge versions. The only other Air Tech Challenge that copies the midsole is the Hybrid version.
Also, these Air Tech Challenge 2s can be worn well with both shorts and pants, come in wearable colorways and are very versatile. Sure, they can’t be worn into the office as a dress shoe but they can pass as almost anything else.
Air Tech Challenge 3 Review
Nike Air Tech Challenge 3s have a sleeker look to them than the Air Tech Challenge 2s. Nike streamlined the design in an attempt to make the sneaker look less blocky. In doing so, some sneaker enthusiasts argue they ruined an already perfect Air Tech Challenge 2.
One thing that stood out about the Air Tech Challenge 3s is that the colorways were anything but subtle. Many pairs feature bright, vibrant lime greens and oranges. These Air Tech Challenges were sure to attract attention because of their colors. However, they lacked the shape many buyers wanted to see.
The Hybrid Air Tech Challenges copy the squiggly, lime green ‘M’ through the upper of the sneaker exactly the same as it was in the Air Tech Challenge 3.
Air Tech Challenge 4 Review
Parts of Nike’s Air Tech Challenge 4 can be seen in the Hybrids. One noticeable similarity is around the Air Unit in the midsole. While the actual midsole is a near-perfect copy from the Air Tech Challenge 2s, there is a half-diamond design wrapping around the bubble that is directly from the Air Tech Challenge 4.
Besides that piece of the midsole in the Hybrid coming from the Air Tech Challenge 4, the crazy tie-dyed colors on the heel of the 4s were also used in the Hybrid. The design of these crazy colors was taken and so were the actual colors. They were used in a combination with other attributes we previously mentioned to complete the colorful uppers of the Hybrids.
Final notes: Nike Air Tech Challenge Hybrid Review
Nike’s Air Tech Challenge Hybrid is a mash-up of the iconic Air Tech Challenges 1-4. Everything from the midsole to the uppers and colorways can be found on the other Air Tech Challenge versions.
The designs on these Hybrid Air Tech Challenges all come from the previous models and are mashed together. Any of the best sneaker blogs will say the same thing.
Nike’s idea to take the same colorways and mix them into the sneaker makes the Hybrids extremely vibrant. It also helps it pay better homage to its predecessors at the same time.
If you liked any of the previous Air Tech Challenges there’s a high chance you’ll love the Hybrids as well. The fit and feel of the sneaker are the same as it’s always been. However, the look includes everything from the previous versions that sneaker enthusiasts love.
These Air Tech Challenges are not easy to come by on the aftermarket, but they aren’t impossible either. It’ll be easier to find a pair of Adidas Ultraboosts for sure, but they won’t have the same feel or iconic background as the Air Tech Challenge sneakers do.
